About Us
Sydney Gastrointestinal Specialists or SGS is a friendly, boutique location where a number of highly experienced gastrointestinal specialists work. It was established in 1984 by Dr Charles McDonald and has always had a deep commitment to providing exceptional quality medical services with a particular emphasis on a personalised, caring approach.
All of the specialists completed their medical degrees in Australia and then undertook extensive advanced training, most having fellowship periods overseas to develop their special interest areas. All of the specialists have contributed in the fields of research and teaching and they all continue to participate in sub-specialty and multidisciplinary meetings with colleagues.
SGS is located in the Ryde Hospital medical precinct, just downhill from the hospital buildings. There is on-site parking with direct level access into the clinic building. On arrival, you will be greeted by the friendly, smiling faces of our helpful office staff.
All of the doctors who work at Sydney Gastrointestinal Specialists are affiliated with a variety of public and private hospitals. Private procedures are usually no-gap charged, so patients with appropriate insurance will not have to pay out-of-pocket hospital expenses.
We are happy to arrange for direct access procedures to be performed at a private facility for eligible patients. Direct access means the patient does not have a medical review until the day of their procedures, and the procedures can be promptly arranged. Please ask your GP to return a Direct Access Endoscopy Form or to send a referral with detailed medical history, reason for procedures and noting the need for direct access procedures.
